Along the coast of Vancouver BC lies a captivating blend of rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, and lush forests, offering a myriad of outdoor activities and breathtaking vistas, from the bustling downtown core to the serene wilderness of Stanley Park, Vancouver's home to several important marine conservation and rehabilitation sites stretched across the coast.
Frequenting at the beaches and aquariums from a young age, Emma Chu developed a deep-rooted passion for marine life and environmental advocacy. Her journey began in 2017 as a volunteer at the Vancouver Marine Mammal Rescue Center. Witnessing firsthand the devastating impact humans can have on the ocean, such as injured sea animals brought in from gunshots and boat strikes, ignited her determination to make a difference.
Continuing her journey by joining Ocean Wise Youth to Sea in 2020, she developed countless community conservation projects including workshops about orcas for elementary students and the ORCA Festival. This community-centered climate fair featured booths run by local, sustainable businesses and environmental organizations to promote ocean conservation and climate action in her community. This festival has impacted much of the community with some of the people learning about issues they hadn't known before and ways to support the local businesses, sustainable businesses, and environmental organizations to promote ocean conservation and climate action in her community.
Emma's journey serves as an inspiration for young people, encouraging them to trust their instincts, explore new opportunities, and embrace their passions. Her unwavering commitment to ocean conservation and climate action demonstrates the power of individual initiative to create a positive impact on the world.
